As part of our ongoing work with children and nature, we offered a class of CE1s from École élémentaire Jean Moulin an artistic experience as part of the Cité Éducative.
For 5 weeks in May and June, choreographer Marie Simon ran hour-long workshops on the expressions evoked by trees. The children were inspired by illustrations in books, as well as by the dancer’s advice and demonstrations, to create their own interpretation of the movements of trees and the nature that surrounds them. At each session, time was set aside for small groups of pupils to create a choreography, which they were able to present to the rest of the class at the final workshop.

As well as paying close attention to their physical expression, Marie Simon invited them to embellish their dance with materials and accessories: long kraft paper, coloured fabric and small pieces of paper, all of which proved a great success. We’ll let you see for yourself!

To round off the tour, the students in the class are invited to attend open rehearsals for Laurent Dupont’s next creation in October 2025, on the theme of living things: ‘From Beech to Being’ (« De l’hêtre à l’être »).
